Round & Round

made January 2006
recalling July 1958

I loved staying with Aunt Lena in Baileys Harbor when I was 10.  It was a small town and you could walk everywhere- movies, beach, ice cream store.

In the grocery store there was a poster announcing free carousel rides when you bought a fudgesicle.  I imagined the one in Disneyland and bought 12 of them.

The carousel came on the back of a pick up truck with 3 tiny plastic animals, just the size for 5 year olds.

I went round and round eating fudgesicles until I felt sick.  Then I gave the fudgesicles and the rest of the free ride tickets to the little kids standing in line.

I still can’t eat fudgesicles.
