ABOUT

I have exhibited my artwork throughout the USA, as well as in Japan, Russia, France, Scotland, Spain, Germany, China, Bali, India and Canada. My art is in collections in Italy, Spain, Panama, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the Alumni Center, Madison.
I am now professor emerita, University of Wisconsin - Madison. My book Memory Cloths includes images and narratives of my first 65 Memory Cloths. These pieces draw on my travels and the textiles of many cultures. I was inspired in 2005 by Memory Cloths created by women in South Africa, Amazwi Abesifazane: Voices of Women.  My embroideries on vintage linens from my friends and family incorporate both text and images based on my memories of celebration, discovery and forgiveness.   I was invited by the Voices of Women Museum, Durban, South Africa to share the Memory Cloth process in the United States. The women’s group, Memory Cloth Circle’s work can be seen on http://makingmemorycloths.blogspot.com/. I believe that creativity is inherent in each individual and encourage everyone to enjoy their own art form. Learn more about my work from the Wisconsin State Journal article "The Knowing Needle".
